Donatella Fioretti has been elected as the new rector of the Düsseldorf Art Academy after a repeat election. The first round of voting was declared invalid due to procedural errors, but Fioretti emerged as the winner in the second round.
She has been a professor of architecture in Düsseldorf since 2017 and co-founded the architectural firm Bruno Fioretti Marquez in Berlin in 1995.
The academy, which celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, has produced world-class artists such as Gerhard Richter, Joseph Beuys, and Andreas Gursky.
Fioretti has pledged to keep the academy workshops open and functioning and highlighted the annual academy tour, which attracts 50,000 visitors.
