April 1 is the day it's supposed to happen. The Gilbert & George Centre will open in the Spitalfields district. There, in East London, the artist duo has now realized what had long been planned. True to the motto "Art for All," works of art are to be on display in the multi-story 19th-century building, for the most part, free of charge. The first show is entitled "The Paradisical Pictures." It will be shown there for the first time. A theme is a paradisical place that both unsettles and enchants. Oversized fruits, rotten flowers, flashy colors - the artists Gilbert & George give the vision of paradise their interpretation.

Gilbert & George have already lived in Spitalfields since the 1960s and had restored their house there by their hand. Since 2015, the pair had been searching for a suitable location for an even much larger project. The new building offers space for three exhibition areas. A total of 280 m² is available to the artists there.
