Call for Local Artists, Galleries, Non-Profits, and Institutions to Join Coalition

GCC Launches New York Chapter

The Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) is launching a New York chapter on the eve of Earth Day, with a nine-member founding committee comprised of artists, dealers, advisors, and institutional leaders.

The coalition, which was founded in 2020, now has more than 800 members in 40 countries and is dedicated to reducing the art sector's carbon footprint by 50% by 2030. The launch of the New York chapter comes with a call for local artists, galleries, non-profits, and institutions to join the coalition.

To ensure that pledges are followed by actions, the GCC has implemented an Active Membership programme, which requires members to have completed an emissions report or carbon audit, maintained a team devoted to green initiatives, and published an environmental responsibility statement. The coalition is committed to discouraging greenwashing and empty pledges, and will re-evaluate members' Active Membership statuses annually.
