David Salle Joins Gladstone Gallery

A New Chapter for the Pictures Generation Painter

David Salle, a renowned painter from New York, has recently joined Gladstone Gallery, a gallery with locations in New York, Brussels, and Seoul. Salle will be represented by Gladstone in the US, while Lehmann Maupin and Thaddaeus Ropac will continue to represent him in Asia and Europe. This move marks a departure from Skarstedt, the blue-chip enterprise that has hosted seven solo shows by Salle in the past decade.

Salle's work is often associated with the Pictures Generation, a group of artists who used appropriation in their work during the late '70s and early '80s. His paintings have been met with both praise and criticism, with some labeling his repeated images of nude women as misogynistic. In addition to his artistic practice, Salle has written extensively on painting, with some of his essays appearing in ARTnews.

Salle expressed his excitement to join the company of many artists he admires, and Gladstone Gallery is delighted to formally welcome him.
