Galerie Templon in Paris
While Paris is currently experiencing a resurgence as a metropolis for contemporary art, Parisian galleries are also being drawn more strongly to the world again. The well-known Parisian Galerie Templon will open a new outpost in New York in the fall, as Artnews now reported. Templon has secured a property in the Chelsea neighborhood, where the Kasmin gallery was. Six thousand five hundred square feet is available to Templon in New York. The architect of the studio MDA was Markus Dochantschi.
As a reason for the new location in New York, the gallery explains in a statement that many of the gallery's artists are still little known in the United States. The artists are now to come into contact with the American public. The outpost will provide a platform for this.
Templon has a long tradition in Paris, founded by Daniel Templon in 1966. In 2016, the gallery began opening new locations. First, a new outpost opened in Brussels, headed by Mathieu Templon, Daniel Templon's son. Mathieu Templon is also moving to the American metropolis with the new gallery in New York to lead the new gallery there.
The gallery will kick off a solo exhibition by New York-based African artist Omar Ba. Exhibitions are also planned for Chiharu Shiota, Iván Navarro, Prune Nourry, Michael Ray Charles, Jim Dine, Edward, and Nancy Kienholz. The theme of the exhibition will be the question of Africa's position in current American and European politics.
