Diversity: The Spice of Creativity
Bastian
Bastian, an internationally renowned art gallery, has carved a niche for itself in the realm of modern and contemporary art. The gallery's reputation is built on its remarkable presentations of works from the modern era, the post-war period, and the contemporary times. These presentations are often showcased in solo exhibitions and curated group exhibitions, providing art enthusiasts with a diverse and enriching experience.
At the heart of Bastian's exhibition program are artists like Pablo Picasso and Emil Nolde, along with German and American post-war modern artists such as Joseph Beuys, Anselm Kiefer, Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol. The gallery also represents some significant artists of our time in Germany, including Anselm Kiefer, Ulrich Erben, Paul Wallach, Wim Wenders, and Emma Stibbon.
Bastian's commitment to art extends beyond exhibitions. The gallery publishes numerous exhibition catalogs, monographs, and directories of works, contributing to the broader discourse on art. A selection of these books can be found in their shop. Exhibitions and showrooms of the gallery are also presented online in Viewing Rooms, making art accessible to a global audience.
The gallery regularly participates in a selection of international art fairs, notably Frieze Masters, The Armory Show New York, artemonte-carlo, and Art Cologne. It has also participated in TEFAF Maastricht, TEFAF New York, and Taipei Dangai. Founded in 1989 by Céline and Heiner Bastian, the gallery has been under the leadership of Aeneas Bastian since 2016.
From 2007 to 2019, Bastian presented exhibitions of modern and contemporary art in its gallery house on Museum Island. In early 2019, the Bastian family gifted their house to the Berlin State Museums, which established a cultural education center there. In November 2021, the gallery moved to its current location in Berlin-Dahlem, a showcase house designed by John Pawson.
Bastian also had a presence in London, operating a public exhibition space in Mayfair from 2019 to 2022. In October 2022, the gallery moved to an office with a private showroom, which is open by appointment.
Bastian is a platform that celebrates the evolution of art, from the modern era to the contemporary times, and fosters a deep appreciation for the creative genius of artists. Whether through its physical exhibitions or its online Viewing Rooms, Bastian continues to bring art closer to people, enriching lives and inspiring minds.
