Founded in 1967 by Nicholas Logsdail, Lisson Gallery has grown to become one of the most influential and longest-running international contemporary art galleries in the world. With a reputation for identifying and supporting new art movements and artists, the gallery has been instrumental in introducing important Minimal and Conceptual artists to the public, such as Art & Language, Carl Andre, Daniel Buren, Donald Judd, John Latham, Sol LeWitt, Richard Long, and Robert Ryman, among many others.

In 2016, under the direction of Alex Logsdail, Lisson Gallery New York was established in Chelsea, with a second New York space opening the following year. In 2019, the gallery expanded into Asia, opening a permanent space in Shanghai, and in 2021, it opened its first permanent space in Beijing. The most recent addition to the Lisson Gallery family is the Los Angeles location, which opened in 2023 within the cultural hub of Hollywood's Sycamore District.
