Stoppenbach & Delestre

Stoppenbach & Delestre, an international fine art gallery, is nestled in the heart of London's art world, in St James's. The gallery was established in 1982 by Robert Stoppenbach and François Delestre, who have been dealing in paintings of the highest quality for four decades. The gallery specialises in French Art from the Barbizon, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Modern Art periods, among others, spanning the 19th and early 20th Century. The gallery prides itself on assisting clients in building collections that reflect their individuality and taste, and offers advice on valuation, appraisal, and authenticity of artworks.

Stoppenbach & Delestre is highly respected for its expertise and has developed close ties with major museums such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, helping them acquire works for their important collections.

The gallery organises exhibitions by artists such as André Derain (1991), Jean Dubuffet (2006), Pierre Eugène Montezin (2015), and Brittany from the Pont-Aven school to Post-Impressionism (2018). It also participates in leading art fairs including Masterpiece London; TEFAF Maastricht; TEFAF New York, Fall and the Biennale des Antiquaires, Paris. The gallery is also a member of the Society of London Art Dealers and the Syndicat National des Antiquaires.

Recent exhibitions include "Maurice Estève" (25 May - 30 Jun 2023), which focused on his works on paper, showcasing the artist’s emphasis and application of colour and form utilising this distinctive medium, alongside drawings, collage, and more. Another notable exhibition was "Mapping Landscapes" (19 Jan - 18 Feb 2023), which investigated the relationship of artists with the 'outside world', exploring affinities and connections across generations and eras.

Stoppenbach & Delestre continues to uphold its legacy of promoting fine art, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists to showcase their work. As it looks towards the future, the gallery remains committed to fostering dialogue within the art community and exploring the human condition through art.
